Date Added: Thursday 09 July, 2009 These are not your run of the mill Trousers!!
I ordered the Officer Trousers from Nick at the same time as I ordered my Jr. Officer Frock; though the wait for the Trousers was a bit longer, they are well worth it. When Nick says that these are tailored based on a civilian pattern, he means it. These are definitely not just enlisted style trousers done with dark blue cloth; they are a completely different cut.
Here are some of the details that Nick puts into these Trousers:
First of all the material is a perfect match for the Frock and Vest which is something I really wanted.
All the buttons are a nice black japanned metal.
The button attachment points for suspenders, (two in the front and one in the back for each side) are on the inside of the waist band. This makes for a much neater appearance that is particularly nice when wearing a vest.
In the back there is a functional buckle adjustment acting on two attached belts made of the same blue wool material.
Inside the trousers there is a fabric flap or strap that comes from the left hip seam around to the front button closure where it also buttons. I have of course seen this kind of extra flap in modern day dress pants, and was intrigued to find that it is an age old practice.
There is a small “coin/watch” pocket in the top right waist seam, the front edge of which is scalloped slightly for easy access.
The main side seam pockets have elegant scalloped stitching around the opening that echoes the stitching available for the cuffs of the Officers Frock.
Similar to his military Vest Nick has applied a narrow edging of black tape around the top seams of the waist band; the watch pocket, and even the two straps for the rear adjustment buckle are neatly edged! All this makes the trousers practically a matched set for his Vest.
Last but not least is the light blue Officer stripe down the outside leg seam. I do not know how Nick even does it. It is not the usual ¼ inch wool “welt or cord” that sticks out of the seams I would have expected. Somehow Nick has worked the seam itself so that a small portion of light blue stripe peaks out of the center of the seam flush with surface where the fabric comes together. I think that Nick probably puts more effort on just the leg stripes for these trousers than most vendors do on a whole pair of pants.
Here is the bottom-line; anyone who wants to step there officer impression up to the highest level could do no better than taking the plunge and ordering Nick’s Officer Frock & Trousers, (and then finishing it off with the Vest!). While doing so obviously involves a non trivial monetary outlay, all I can say is that I am deeply satisfied with what Nick has delivered and would recommend it to anyone.
