he pattern for this cap was inherited from Paul von Ruehs, who was not only one of the pioneers in reproduction clothing, but a truly meticulous craftsman. In the late 1970"s Paul had examined the specimens in the National Collection housed in the Smithsonian Institution, in addition to a survey of photographic evidence. This hat features a vertical front visor and neck and ear flap/cape that is secured in the front by black grosgrain ribbon. Lined in white cotton drill, the sizing was marked by the early "dot" system.
