Being an extremely rare artifact, and among one of the series of items sent overseas as part of the Danish Exchange, this garment reflects the transition from Mexican War jacket to the 1858 frock coat. Although referred to as the "pleated frock", the skirt is in fact shirred int the waist seam.
Construction is similiar, but more involved than the standard frock coat of the civil war. It features outside entry pockets, and a more complex lining construction that the mass production of the war time.
