hite cardstock, printed one side with the text “Camp Scott. Pass the Bearer at the Main Guard Tent.” with a space for the signature of the Officer of the Guard. This card (sold in bulk so that it may be used as intended) is almost surely associated with a regiment of volunteers previous to their departure for the seat of war; it would make a wonderful addition to a reenactment of such an encampment. This was a time when everything about the war was new and visits to the noble defenders of their country were an exciting (and rather romantic) social activity. Another card of the same sort in my collection (for a “Camp Lincoln”) draws the point more clearly: its printed text is the same, but it has been altered in ink to read “Pass the Bearer and Lady.”
