As pictured in the Confederate sketchbook, this shirt is constructed without a traditional separte front placket. The placket is actually made from a facing that folds over to close the front, very much like the shirts from late 18th century. The placket is a separate facing, that has a buttonhole-stitch reinforcement at the base.
Made with two exterior patch pockets., hand topstitched and overcast.
The inside seams are pressed upon, but left raw. The armhole is faced with cotton muslin and hand attached.
