The name Eliza originated as a diminutive of Elizabeth, tracing its origin back to antiquity, coming from the Hebrew "pleged to God". In Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, Eliza is the intelligent and courageous slave protagonist.
Taken from an original piece in our collection, this example, as well as a rubber overshoe, was found in the walls of a 19th century house during its demolition. Avaialble in several colorways.
