Widely seen in photographs of the period, this hat bears the distinctive silhouette of the 1839 Forage cap. This very silhouette was used by military schools as well as river boat men. A variety of fabrics can be used for this cap, including painted canvas or linen, or even fabric provided by the customer. Linings can vary from solids to prints or plaids. Being a non military item, there a a great degree of variation that can be had in this cap.
Our cap is made along the lines of the military version with a reeded crown and leather reeding along the visor. There is a tape running along the inside of the sweatband, allowing for a degree of adjustment.
