Shirt manufacture was where Oliver Winchester made his fortune, before becoming a household name for firearms. One of his mainstays was the white pleated shirt. This is one of the most widely worn shirts of the period, and men from all social classes were seen wearing them. Our copy is marked in blue from a French example, which was widely imported during the war, and is consequently appropriate for both North and South.
