A Partial listing of Federal inspectors

The listing below represents a compilation of inspectors who served the federal goverment during the period of the rebellion. While the list is not comprehensive, it provides a good reference to not only the major depots, but also the periods of service. For example, there was a recent sale of an original uniform jacket worn by a soldier proportedly killed at Malvern Hill. It was very hard to dispute the authenticity of the identity of the jacket, save for the fact that the name of the inspector indicated that could NOT have been issued earlier than 1864, because of the inspector had not started until that point.
