“E Pluribus Unum” Blank Book
[6602]
$7.50

Letter Blank books show up in the product listings of most mid-19th century printers. This is a particularly nice example for reenactment use as it carries no printer’s name or location; many printers used the covers of their blank books for free advertising. Both front and back covers carry the same attractive border, ornamental dividers and stock cut of an eagle, bearing the stars and stripes surmounted by a liberty cap, and carrying a ribbon with the motto “E Pluribus Unum.”

Its anonymity and patriotic motif make this as an excellent choice for an officer's or NCO’s roll- or memorandum-book. The original was used as an account book for 1864 between a certain “Maximillian Original Blank BookWebber”—probably a German immigrant—and D. & J.B. Woodbury, who appear to have run a general store, and documents his purchases as well as the general labor he performed. Single signature, 32 pages with the correct narrow, ruling; saddle-stitched.
